MEGGETT, S.C. (WCSC) – One Lowcountry teacher wants some new technology to help her students become more interactive in the classroom.

Jennifer Noes teaches Kindergarten at Lowcountry Leadership Charter School and says her students bring joy to her classroom every day.

“They are the reason I come to work every day. They make me laugh every day. You can’t have a bad day in kindergarten, especially,” Noes said.

Right now, all of her students have a Chromebook, but she’s looking to technology to aid in student-led lessons.

“I’m looking for an interactive smart board, whiteboard. Currently, we only have a projector,”

Noes says that with a smart board, students would be able to physically get up and write on the board, rather than sitting at a desk looking at a projector screen.

“A lot of times they don’t want to participate, but giving them the chance to get up and move and have movement will also help and just make it more fun,” Noes said.

She says it will provide another aspect of group interaction and collaboration.

“If we’re practicing, tapping out and spelling words, they will be able to go up and manipulate and move the letters to build the words instead of me asking them what letters, and then me actually doing that on the projector,” Noes said.

Noes says she does not currently have the school funding to purchase the smart board, being a charter school.

“We receive less funding than a school board, like Charleston County School District schools do. We receive 60% of the funding that those schools receive, and so that’s one of the main reasons why we’re a little bit further behind with having Smartboard and Promethean boards,” Noes said.
