MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – Kinepolis has announced a $105 million agreement to acquire Emagine Entertainment, a U.S. movie theater chain, by the end of the year.

This involves 14 cinemas with 177 screens and 18,000 seats across Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, including Emagine locations in Birch Run and the Saginaw area.

Emagine Entertainment attracts about 6 million visitors annually and generates nearly $129 million in revenue.

Eddy Duquenne, CEO of Kinepolis Group, said the acquisition aligns with their expansion strategy and enhances their presence in the U.S. market.

“The location and size of the cinemas make them a valuable addition to the group’s portfolio, allowing us to expand our presence in the U.S. market and strengthen our national structure,” he said. “We are excited to welcome the new teams to the Kinepolis family.”

Paul Glantz, chairman and CEO of Emagine Entertainment, said Kinepolis is the ideal suitor to continue Emagine’s legacy due to their commitment to an exceptional movie experience.

“Their commitment to providing guests with an unforgettable movie experience makes them the ideal suitor to continue the stewardship of Emagine into the future,” he said.

Kinepolis will continue to operate theaters under the Emagine brand name, ensuring continuity for customers and employees.
