PHOENIX — A energy company based in Buffalo, New York is set to open a massive 530,000-square-foot facility in Goodyear, with expected completion in 2026, a Tuesday press release announced.
GTI Energy is investing close to $53 million — $33 million up front — into a project that will create 600 jobs for the surrounding community. It will initially open with 250 jobs before being fully operational.
The facility to occupy space roughly 3 miles south of Interstate 10 at Lakin Park will be the energy company’s “primary high-volume manufacturing site” and serve as a complement to an existing facility in Phoenix.
This future site will specifically handle “raw steel processing and welding to electrical integration, battery installation and end-of-line testing,” according to the release.
Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo said in the release that GTI’s “innovative clean energy solutions” match the values of their community.
“(GTI’s) investment further solidifies Goodyear’s reputation as a premier location for businesses,” Pizzillo said.
“We are grateful to GTI Energy for their commitment to Arizona,” Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, said in the release. “This facility will enhance our growing clean energy ecosystem as part of the booming manufacturing activity taking place in the West Valley and statewide.”
