JOHNSTON, PA — Fayetteville State turned in a solid opening round Thursday and sits tied for seventh place following day one of the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional, being contested at the Sunnehanna Country Club.

The Broncos posted a team score of 13-over-par (293) through the opening 18 holes and remain firmly in contention heading into the second round of the three-day regional.

At the top of the standings, Gannon leads the field after firing a 285 in the opening round. Winston-Salem State sits second at 287, while a three-way tie for third includes Pitt-Johnstown, Wheeling, and Adelphi, all posting opening-round scores of 289.

Leading the way for Fayetteville State was Allan Terrazas, who paced the Broncos with a 2-over-par 72. Terrazas was steady throughout the round, carding consistent scores on both nines to finish tied for 18th individually and establish himself as the team’s top performer on the opening day.

Close behind was Donald Barnett, who finished one shot back at 3-over-par 73. Barnett turned in a composed round that featured several key pars to keep the Broncos’ team score competitive as the day progressed.

Sutton Dreier and Landon Cabingas both ended the day at 4-over-par 74, finishing tied for 42nd. Dreier posted a balanced scorecard across both nines, while Cabingas rebounded nicely after a challenging stretch early in the round to stay within striking distance of the field.

Rounding out the lineup was Patricio Ramirez, who carded a 6-over-par 76 to complete the team scoring for Fayetteville State on day one.

With two rounds remaining, Fayetteville State remains firmly in contention as the Broncos aim to move up the leaderboard and challenge for advancement out of one of the NCAA’s toughest regional fields.

Fayetteville State will tee off for Friday’s second round at 10:50 a.m., looking to build on a solid opening day and gain momentum going into the final stretch of the tournament.
