Fiesta del Pueblo exhibit showcases student art celebrating Hispanic, Latin American culture

TIFTON — As residents of Tifton await the return of La Fiesta del Pueblo, the latest exhibition at the Syd promises a preview of the cultural celebration from the creative young minds of the Tiftarea.
The Fiesta del Pueblo art exhibit, now on display at the Syd Blackmarr Arts Center, showcases the works of local students across all grade bands and more in celebration of Hispanic and Latin American countries as a prelude to the festival of the same name slated for this weekend.
Created through a collaboration between the Tifton Council for the Arts, the planning committee for Fiesta del Pueblo, and Tift County Schools, the exhibition features over one-hundred pieces from elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as adult artists, that reflect the culture, history, and landscapes of various Latin American and Hispanic countries.
Participating artists conveyed their relationship and perspective on this theme through drawings, paintings, or sketches, crocheting or yarn art, or three-dimensional pieces depicting houses, ranches, and other buildings.
Additionally, organizers reported that artists from outside the county took part the showcase, with pieces from students out of Moultrie’s Okapilco Elementary joining the gallery.
Like with the previous two years, this exhibition serves as a prelude to La Fiesta del Pueblo, now in its twenty-eighth year, and will remain open throughout the week to lead up to the main celebration. Following this, a selection of pieces from the gallery will appear at the festival.
La Fiesta del Pueblo will take place Sep. 26 at Fulwood Park from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and will be free and open to the public.
