DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) –The Quad Cities Latino Cinema Series will launch July 15 at The Last Picture House, offering four films that celebrate Latino culture and support local Hispanic nonprofits.
The series is presented by AJV Original Photography in collaboration with The Last Picture House and is sponsored by the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Organizers describe the series as a cultural experience rather than a traditional film lineup. Each screening features themed activities before the movie and is designed to bring the community together through film, music and shared traditions.
The series was created to highlight Latino stories on the big screen and encourage conversation about the history and experiences that shape the community.
The first film, Selena, will be shown July 15 at The Last Picture House, 325 E. 2nd St. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the screening begins at 6 p.m. The event is hosted by LULAC Council #5285. Tickets are available here.
Three additional films are scheduled: Stand and Deliver on Aug. 19, In the Heights on Sept. 15 and La Bamba on Oct. 14. All screenings will take place at the same venue and time.
Each movie night is hosted by a different Hispanic organization, including LULAC Council #5285, LULAC Council #10, the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Mercado on Fifth.
Organizers say 100% of ticket sales benefit the nonprofit hosting that evening’s film.
