Fútbol is more than a sport. For Latinos, it can feel like devotion, identity, family tradition, and the perfect reason to gather with the people we love. Even when our own home country doesn’t make it to a major tournament, we still find a neighboring country to support.
Long before the opening whistle, la familia gathers to grab the best seat, fire up the grill, set the table, and plug in the music. Jerseys come out of the closet. Lucky scarves, flags, and fútbol memorabilia find their place in the living room. Empanadas, tapas, carne asada, and caipirinhas are on the menu. And let’s not forget the tíos, who always have an opinion about the starting lineup.
In many Latino families, match day is sacred.
Across Latin America, fútbol brings families, friends, and entire communities together. Whether it’s Argentinians gathering around the grill for an asado before kickoff, Colombians filling homes and streets with music and celebration, or Venezuelans cheering with pride and optimism, match day becomes a shared experience that transcends the final score.
Ask any Latino about their team jersey, and they’ll proudly share the story behind it — along with the lucky items, game-day rituals, and fandom memories passed down over time.
From neighborhood watch parties to packed living rooms, fútbol creates a sense of belonging that extends across borders, uniting Latinos through a common language of passion, pride, and community.
Speaking of unforgettable goals, now that we’re getting closer to one of our favorite matches of the Summer the México Vs. Korea game on June 18th, the Mexican and Korean cultures share a very special bond. Mexico fans have a soft spot for South Korea—and it all goes back to the unforgettable 2018 tournament.
That year, Son Heung-min etched his name into Mexican soccer lore with a stoppage-time goal that helped eliminate Germany and paved the way for El Tri to advance to the knockout stage. Thousands of miles away, Mexican fans celebrated South Korea’s victory as if it were their own, creating one of the tournament’s most memorable cross-cultural moments.
Now, those two nations meet again on the world’s biggest stage, as South Korea and Mexico prepare to face off in Group A next summer. This time, there will be no divided loyalties—just passion, pride, and 90 minutes of fútbol that will have both fan bases fully invested.
Building the Ultimate At-Home Watch Party
Every great match deserves a great watch party.
The best fútbol gatherings are measured by the energy in the room — and yes, maybe the TV ratings too. But the real essentials?
- A jersey that represents your team or your heritage.
- Family recipes and favorite game-day picadera.
- Scarves, flags, signed items, or lucky pieces collected over years of fandom.
- Friends and family who celebrate every moment with the same passion.
- Enough room for everyone to jump up when the announcer screams GOOOOOL!
Because at the end of the day, fútbol is about connection.
It’s the cousin who never misses a match. The uncle who predicts every scoreline. The friend who shows up wearing the same lucky jersey every game. The stories, traditions, and rituals passed down from one generation to the next.
That’s why Latino fútbol fandom is so powerful. It’s about celebrating who we are.
And when the world is watching, Latino fans show up the way they always have: with passion, pride, food, family, and a love for the beautiful game that cannot be measured by the scoreboard.
