McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., a 100% employee-owned company, announced the completion of its purchase of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Tempe, Arizona at the corner of Priest Drive and Broadway Road. This will become the company’s new center for employee learning, leadership, and development.

The new facility reflects McCarthy’s ongoing investment in its people and represents a long-term investment in Tempe as a year-round destination for business, learning, and professional development. The campus will bring thousands of McCarthy employees from across the country to Tempe annually for multi-day learning and development programs and team-build outings – all providing local economic impact.

“The purchase of our new Center for Learning and Development marks another major investment in our people, performance, and culture, and it underscores our long-term commitment to developing the next generation of builders and leaders,” said Ray Sedey, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for McCarthy. “

As a longstanding community builder, McCarthy will revitalize the 12-acre former Fiesta Inn campus, preserving its distinctive architectural character, with refreshed and modernized aesthetics as well as new on-site employment opportunities that support Tempe’s economic and community development objectives. The revitalization will also preserve and enhance the campus’s lush landscape to maintain the natural character and its connection to the surrounding community.

The new Tempe learning and development campus expands McCarthy’s Arizona presence, joining the Innovation and Craft Workforce Center in Chandler and its Southwest Regional Headquarters in Phoenix. The Chandler Center specializes in training craft professionals and trade partners with discipline-specific training, hands-on skills development, and prefabrication capabilities.

The new center in Tempe will host professional development programs, leadership and executive development, and skill-specific coaching and training for the firm’s 8,000 employees throughout the year.

“We have known and respected McCarthy’s work for decades and we are so proud that they chose Tempe as the location for their new Center for Learning and Development,” said Mayor Corey Woods. “Their significant investment in restoring and improving this property is appreciated, and our city looks forward to hosting the thousands of McCarthy construction professionals who will be visiting each year.”

Planning and construction improvements at the newly purchased Tempe property will continue over the next 18–24 months
