Fort Worth-based PAK Quality Foods has acquired the assets of Las Colinas International Inc., better known as Formosa Foods, the company announced Monday.
The deal brings together two regional distributors and expands PAK’s reach beyond Texas and eastern New Mexico.
Dallas-based Formosa, founded in 1979, is a family-owned company that supplies foodservice, retail, and institutional customers in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Its line includes beef, pork, poultry, seafood, lamb, goat, grains, dry goods, and disposables.
John Pieper, CEO of PAK, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s ability to serve a wider range of customers. “We are excited to expand our offering to customers and also to offer Formosa Foods’ customers access to our products and service,” Pieper said in a statement. “Together we will be an even stronger company.”
As part of the deal, Formosa owners Jesse and Weldon Chang will continue to lead the business and have also invested in PAK Quality Foods, PAK said.
The move builds on PAK’s broader expansion strategy under the ownership of Cross Rapids Capital, a New York private equity firm that recapitalized the company in early 2024. That transaction included FrigiServe, a technology-driven cold storage and supply chain provider based in DFW, which now operates as part of the platform.
PAK Quality Foods was founded in 1988 by Gary and Patty Stokes and operates distribution facilities in Fort Worth and San Angelo. The company supplies proteins, cheeses, oils, and dry goods to foodservice, retail, and institutional customers in Texas and Eastern New Mexico.
Pieper, who was appointed CEO at the time of the Cross Rapids deal, previously spent more than 35 years in protein sales and food distribution in the Texas market.
“PAK Quality is a uniquely well-managed business with high growth potential,” he said when the recapitalization was announced. “Reliable and responsive service to our customers will always be our number one priority.”
Terms of the Formosa Foods transaction were not disclosed.
