Fortune chief executive Anastasia Nyrkovskaya is stepping down at the end of the year, she told staff in an email Wednesday, marking a sudden leadership change at the profitable but pressure-tested business publisher.
Nyrkovskaya, who joined Fortune in 2019 as chief financial officer and chief strategy officer, became CEO in April 2024 following the departure of longtime chief executive Alan Murray. Her appointment made her the first woman to lead the company in its history. She had previously held roles at NBCUniversal, Birchbox, XpresSpa, and KPMG.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime and a highlight of my career to lead the 95-year-old Fortune and to work so closely with some of the best people in business journalism today,” Nyrkovskaya wrote in the email, which was obtained by ADWEEK.
