Elegant decorations, curated tablescapes, tapas and signature drinks can be found inside select Alta Vista homes this holiday season – along with a heart for supporting health, education and care for our Hispanic neighbors.

It all happens at Homes for the Holidays, a home tour taking place Dec. 13 in Greenville’s Alta Vista neighborhood. Participants can get inspired by merry decor and elegant menus at each stop, and come together to celebrate the season and the work of Hispanic Alliance, a local, collaborative nonprofit.

Andrew Skinner, Director of Public Relations & Development for Hispanic Alliance, says last year’s tour was a partnership with the Greenville County Medical Society alliance.

“All the proceeds from the 2024 event helped us greatly as we continue to work towards health equity and inclusive activities to promote active living and healthy lifestyles for the Hispanic community,” Skinner says.

Those activities have included Zumba at the Kroc Center, walks on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, yoga sessions and more. This year’s event will continue supporting those efforts and also strengthen other pillars of Hispanic Alliance’s work, including fostering collaboration on education and securing access to legal services. One initiative offers resources for teens to help them reach their goals.

“The Hispanic community lags behind in terms of high school graduation rates here in Greenville County and across South Carolina. We’ve got some programs with our education team, like the Lunch and Learn series, where we go into Greenville County High Schools and do a learning session, talking to these students in Spanish – here are resources for scholarships, for mentors, for your family – letting them know who we are and what we do,” Skinner says. “If they need any help as they traverse their path to higher education, they’ve got a partner in their corner.”

The home tour gives participants access to select homes that have been beautifully decorated by designers, each providing a stop to enjoy live music, food and art of the Hispanic community.

“This is a unique opportunity for the greater Greenville community to come out and experience that historic district of our lovely city, but also to experience a little bit of Hispanic culture alongside that,” Skinner says. “Come experience it yourself. Be a part of our familia.”

You can go

Homes for the Holidays is 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Dec. 13 in the Alta Vista neighborhood of Greenville near McDaniel and Crescent Avenues. Tickets are $125 each and include a walkable tour of decorated homes, holiday-themed beverages, heavy hors d’oeuvres and the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets. Participants are assigned a starting location to help with crowd flow. A shuttle will be available. For details, tickets and sponsorship opportunities, visit hispanicalliancesc.com/holiday
