The Denver Broncos have several candidates who could break out in a big way in 2026. Several players stand out in that category; wide receiver Pat Bryant and pass-rusher Jonah Elliss are among the players who come to mind. Both players have had great training camp performances, and all could see big performances this fall.
However, Fox Sports writer Ralph Vicchiano believes there could be another player due for a huge year: sophomore running back RJ Harvey.
“J.K. Dobbins was on his way to an impressive season last year, only to do what he often does — get hurt,” Vicchiano wrote in an article detailing one breakout candidate for each NFL squad. “That forced the Broncos to turn to Harvey, who has big-play potential and breakaway speed. He wasn’t explosive as a rookie, but he did end up with 896 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns in pretty limited action. He also showed he’s capable of carrying a bigger load. He averaged just five carries per game before Dobbins got hurt. He’ll almost certainly get more touches this season even if Dobbins is healthy.”
Harvey led the Broncos in total touchdowns in 2025, becoming an essential cog in the offense. Harvey’s role in the offense expanded exponentially and was thrown into the fire after Dobbins’ injury in the middle of the season. Despite his struggles after Dobbins’ injury, Harvey could truly thrive in the “back by committee” approach Denver will likely take this season. Without the pressure of the entire workload on his shoulders, Harvey is a great complement to quarterback Bo Nix in the backfield, in both the run game, and especially the pass game.
In the preseason, Harvey once again showed his big-play ability and pass-catching prowess when he caught Nix’s first touchdown pass since breaking his ankle. Harvey has the speed to come out of the backfield and take on a linebacker in coverage. We’ll see how big Harvey’s role becomes in Denver’s first regular-season action against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.
Harvey is definitely ready for more in 2026.
