Funeral services will be July 17 for George E. Johnson Sr., founder of the Johnson Products Company.

Johnson’s visitation will take place July 16 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Leak and Sons Funeral Home, 7838 S. Cottage Grove Ave., according to an announcement from his family. A funeral service will be held July 17 at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 400 W. 95th St.

Johnson, who founded Johnson Products Company, which created hair care products tailored to Black consumers, died Monday morning from natural causes at his Downtown Chicago condo at age 99, according to his son John Edward Johnson.

Johnson’s company, headquartered at 8522 S. Lafayette Ave., manufactured product lines including Ultra Sheen, Classy Curl, Curly Perm and Black Tie men’s cologne. It was the first Black-owned company to trade on the American Stock Exchange.
