GADSDEN, Ala. (WBRC) – The City of Gadsden is providing their police department with technical tools to help fight crimes and keep you safe.

Using every tool at their disposal, The Gadsden Police Department is adapting to a new way of fighting crime.

Sgt. Dusty Ford with the Gadsden Police Department says there’s a lot of men and women who play a vital role in making sure the department is up to date with technology to help catch criminals while providing good communication with other law enforcement.

“There’s a inner connectivity in all of that and having those partnerships with other places that are using that technology is only stepping us into the right direction as far as being able to jurisdictionally handle problems and then regionally like with Etowah County and agencies inside of Etowah County,” said Sgt. Ford.

With all the technological advances in law enforcement, Sgt. Ford says simple policing is still effective.

“Technology is amazing and we’re so thankful for it but there’s nothing that’s going to take away that relationship you build with the community by getting out knocking on doors, by getting out and talking to the people at the store, making those friendships and relationships count. Those are the things that help us solve crime,” said Sgt. Ford.

Using flock cameras around the city to help with the arrest of jewelry thieves last week, Sgt. Ford says the integration of technology into the department is a step forward.

“I can’t encourage people enough to invest in a good for your home and your security, buy yourself a decent cloud based security system. That makes crime fighting so much better on a community scale because we can then work together for your good and the good of the community,” said Sgt. Ford.

Gadsden police officials say they’re pleased with the new flock cameras around town and they will continue to look for new ways to fight crime.
