Salt Lake City could soon get a handful of new retail stores in the near future.
According to permits recently filed with Salt Lake City, the Post District, Sugar House and other neighborhoods are slated to have new businesses open. Below we have a rundown of some of what to expect in your neighborhood coming soon.
Golf simulator
In the latest addition to one of the city’s newest districts, the Post District could soon have a golf simulator built along Gale Street. A commercial building permit filed Monday indicates a Five Iron Golf location is slated to be built at 554 South Gale St., which would be located near the Melancholy bar.
The permit indicates the job value for the build is $1.5 million, as the area totals just under 10,000 square feet. The permit also says the scope of work includes a new bar, kitchen areas and the gaming areas. No structural work would be involved.
Five Iron Golf is a golf simulator franchise with locations across the country. Its nearest location to Utah is located in Las Vegas. The location offers golf instructors and club fittings, plus can be rented out for events, according to its website.
The new retailer would be the latest addition to the Post District, which already flaunts a number of multifamily buildings, plus retailers like La Sportiva and F&B options like Mensho Ramen, Level Crossing Brewing Company and Urban Hill, to name a few.
No timeline for construction was included in the Five Iron Golf permit. The permit is still in the pre-screening process with Salt Lake City, though the permit is being expedited.
Coffee shop drive-thrus
A pair of new coffee spots are in the works in Sugar House and Central City.
Two locations for 7 Brew Drive Thru Coffee are being planned in Salt Lake City, with commercial building permits indicating the locations will be at 555 E. 400 South in Central City and at 2045 S. 1300 East in Sugar House. Both locations are currently home to KFC/A&W combination restaurants, and both have drive-thrus.
7 Brew Coffee locations are primarily drive-thrus, and the Sugar House location is just outside of the local boundaries — which used to be the business districts (CSHBD1 and CSHBD2) that are now a part of the MU-11 zone — that banned drive-thrus in previous years. Drive-thrus are a nonconforming use along 400 South, but are legal if the use stays the same and does not require an increase to vehicle stacking spaces outlined in city code.
For the 400 South location, the commercial building permit seeks to convert “3,138 (square feet) drive-through restaurant to a 7Brew coffee with a 2,038 (square feet) future tenant space taking up the east portion of the building.” The job value is estimated to be just over $545,000.
In Sugar House, the commercial building permit seeks to convert the 2,485 square foot restaurant into a 7Brew. The job value is estimated to be around $589,000.
The pair of new locations would be 7 Brew’s first foray into Salt Lake City, though the chain has three locations in Salt Lake County, according to its website. Those locations are found in West Valley City, Millcreek and Riverton.
Gelato shop
Located on the boundary between Liberty Wells and Central City, 900 South could have another F&B stop. Several permits were filed late last week in connection with a new retailer named Macks Finest Gelato, including permits for commercial building, electrical and plumbing.
The permits show the new gelato shop would be located at 313 E. 900 South. The gelato shop would be directly adjacent to the new Jammy Brunch & Breakfast, which opened in June and is the former home of Chubby Baker. Just to the east of both buildings is the ever-popular Loki Coffee shop.
Macks Finest on 900 South would be its second location, as the business has its first location in Park City on Bonanza Drive. The shop offers up gelato and espresso, according to its Instagram account. Macks announced on social media earlier this year it would move into the 900 South location.
The estimated job value listed on the commercial building permit is $200,000, and the permit is still in the pre-screening phase. It’s not clear when the proposed gelato shop could open, though its Instagram account said it would open this fall.
