The Village of Granisle has completed construction of its community-wide fibre-optic network, with Mayor Linda McGuire telling the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako board on Aug. 14 that residents and businesses are already benefiting.
“People are really happy with it. It’s made a huge difference for us,” McGuire said. She also noted the project’s economic impact, saying, “It’s allowed us to compete in ways we couldn’t before.”
The high-speed service has replaced older, limited-capacity connections and is improving internet access for homes and businesses throughout the village.
“It’s really ripping along,” McGuire said.
The project, funded through a combination of federal and provincial grants, was designed to support remote work, education, telehealth and online business operations, while accommodating future speed upgrades and additional services.
“It’s really allowed us to compete,” McGuire told the board.
RDBN directors congratulated Granisle on the achievement, saying it demonstrated how smaller communities can enhance economic development and quality of life through improved connectivity.
