Houston (34-20) defeated Charlotte (26-30), 105-101, at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Former Vol Grant Williams started and played 29 minutes for the Hornets. He totaled 20 points, nine rebounds and one assist. Williams converted 7-of-10 field goal attempts, 4-of-5 three-point attempts and 2-of-2 free throw attempts in Charlotte’s return from the all-star break.
Williams played at Tennessee from 2016-19. He was a two-time SEC Player of the Year, 2019 NCAA unanimous first team All-American and a two-time SEC Player of the Year.
On May 17, 2019, Williams announced he would forgo his senior season and enter the NBA draft. He was selected by Boston in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft (No. 22 overall).
Williams appeared in 104 games, including 101 starts, for the Vols. He averaged 15.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
Charlotte will next play on Friday versus Cleveland. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. EST at Spectrum Center.
