A group of Henderson homeowners said they are preparing to sue a homebuilder because several houses in an Inspirada neighborhood have turned pink, which they suspect is due to a paint defect.

Robert Nanos purchased his house on Stanza Street, near Bicentennial Parkway and Via Firenze, from Century Communities in 2018. The house was originally beige but has been discolored from years of sun exposure, Nanos said during a Thursday interview.

Nanos’ home is one of at least 11 in Henderson built by Century Communities that have turned pink, he said, adding that attempts to get the homebuilder to repaint the house have failed and that paying out-of-pocket for a new paint job could cost him thousands of dollars.

Nanos said his house is less than 10 years old and is still under warranty from Century Communities. Nanos and other homeowners are prepared to file a joint lawsuit against the homebuilder if corrective action isn’t taken soon, he said.

“It’s not even about the money,” Nanos said. “I don’t want them to get away with it.”

Others in Nanos’ neighborhood feel the same way.

“I’m not looking for anything else other than a fresh coat of paint,” said Kevin Stella, who moved into a nearby house on Scenic Rhyme Avenue in 2024. “I’m kind of hoping this is kind of gonna be a no-brainer and that they (Century Communities) aren’t gonna fight it.”

Nanos said his house has been pink for about four years, but he decided to take action against Century Communities because he received a violation from his homeowners association a few months ago stating he had not been approved to paint his house pink.

In his response to the HOA, Nanos suggested they look around the neighborhood.

“I said, ‘Do me a favor, before you get all crazy about this, drive around the neighborhood a little bit,’” Nanos, 74, said. “After they did that, they saw there were 10 other ones, and it’s all just this color, they dropped the violation.”

Jeremy Story, a spokesperson for Century Communities, shared a portion of the homebuilding company’s warranty policy stating that peeling or flaking paint on the exterior is covered, but that fading due to environmental factors can be expected over time, is not considered a construction defect and is not covered by the warranty.

Story also shared a statement from the company standing by the policy.

“We are proud of the high-quality homes we offer in Henderson, and we stand behind them with a strong warranty. Paint that has faded or discolored after nearly a decade in the Nevada sun qualifies as normal wear and tear, and is considered as simply standard home maintenance that is the responsibility of the homeowner, as is clearly stated in our warranty.”

Nanos said he’s recently considered moving out of state to be closer to friends and family, but has already heard from his real estate agent that selling a pink house could be difficult. Whatever comes next, Nanos said he’s not going to let his pink house keep him blue.

“I’m determined to get this settled,” Nanos said.
