What to know about Phoenix, Arizona, 5th largest city in US

Phoenix, Arizona’s capital, is the fifth largest city in the U.S. and a destination for world-class resorts, golf, spring training and award-winning restaurants.

The Republic

Location: Second Avenue and Osborn Road in midtown Phoenix

Description: A hotel on the northwest corner of Second Avenue and Osborn Road in midtown Phoenix has been gated off and under construction for years.

Stella Koleva, general manager of Holiday Inn Express, said the site would become a Holiday Inn Express. After renovations are done, the new hotel will include 136 rooms with contemporary designs. The hotel will be geared toward business travelers, those seeking treatment or visiting family at nearby medical facilities, or tourists who want to be close to light rail to visit downtown, Chase Field or the Suns arena.

History: The building was previously the Ramada by Wyndham Phoenix Midtown, which closed in 2021. Public records show Midtown Hotel Group LLC has owned the parcel since 2016.

When will the work be done? It’s slated to open in May 2025 after undergoing construction for the past three years, Koleva said.
