A longtime local butcher shop has quietly closed its doors, but another is already making plans to move in.

Stone Cold Meats is expanding to Katy, taking over the former space of Meat Masters at 2020 South Fry Road. Stone Cold Meats co-owners Ami and Sean Stone teased their new location Sunday in a Facebook post, asking followers to guess where in Katy the shop would open.

It didn’t take long for many to recognize it as the old stomping grounds of Meat Masters, a family owned shop that had been open for 18 years. The local shop never announced its final day of service but its Facebook page now lists it as “permanently closed.” Its last social media post was in June.

Soon, the space will be transformed into Stone Cold Meats’ fourth butcher shop.

‘Old School Butcher. New Age Approach.’

Stone Cold Meats was founded in League City in 2018. Since, the Stones have taken their neighborhood butcher shop to both Conroe and Cypress.

“We believe in the knowledge, service and quality you expect from an old-school butcher shop—while constantly creating new products, flavors and reasons to fire up the grill. We cut meat. We make our own sausages. We create stuffed and marinated meats. We come up with some pretty ridiculous things to put on a grill—and probably have way too much fun naming them,” the Stones wrote in another Facebook post Monday. “But most importantly, we are still a family owned business.

“And our new Katy home has a little history of its own. It was a butcher shop before us, and over the next several months, we’re going to give it a facelift, put our Stone Cold Meats stamp on it and make it our own,” they continued.

The Stones have not announced an official opening date but said they hope to launch the Katy shop sometime next year.
