HOUSTON — Families were out Saturday trying to find ways to keep cool while the Houston area was under a Heat Advisory.
“Very hot, very intimidating because the heat is so hot in Texas,” said parent Chelsea Hunter.
Some people wait a while before going outside during the summer heat.
“We’ve been staying inside whenever it’s hot outside, especially from, like, maybe 11 till you know, 3 or 4, just because how hot it is. So not really been playing in the backyard,” said parent Seth Pratt.
When people do decide to step outside and brave the sun, they opt for a place like a splash pad where they can make sure their kids are staying cool.
“It feels good, but I know without the water it’s hot,” said Hunter.

“Staying hydrated that’s the number one top priority,” said Hunter.
“We usually wait till, you know, about 5 o’clock to do anything, you know, or try to do it in the morning,” said Pratt.
KHOU took a large thermometer outside and it read 99 degrees at 6:37 p.m. Saturday.
This is why families are making sure they have what they need as they continue to spend time outside this summer.
“Stay hydrated, sunscreen and come out in the evening and mosquito spray,” said Hunter.
The Houston Fire Department tells KHOU 11 News they had crews at multiple events Saturday and want to remind people to be safe, take precautions like drinking plenty of water even if you’re not thirsty so you are staying hydrated.
