Food and labor prices keep rising, leaving people with less disposable income to dine out. As a result, Houston has become a revolving door for restaurants.
Jonathan Horowitz with the Houston Hospitality Alliance told KTRH, “We have seen a lot of turnover, a lot of closures. The industry as a whole is still trying to dig out from the COVID years.” However, the effects of COVID-19 shutdowns are only part of the problem.
Horowitz explains that inflation and financial pressures on consumers have created an extraordinarily difficult business climate for restaurants.
Despite these challenges, there is some good news. Houston is still growing, and there is still demand for restaurants. Owners and operators can take advantage of social media and happy hours to drive business back up.
