LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Southern Nevada woman has turned doing laundry in her home into a full-time business, earning between $7,000 and $9,000 a month through an app called Poplin.
Lorris Aufill operates multiple washing machines and dryers in her garage throughout the day, serving several Southern Nevada residents who use the laundry service app.
She started the business in 2022 through Poplin to earn extra income for her family of four children. The business has since grown to become the family’s primary source of income, covering all their bills and expenses.

How the business works
Aufill has converted one of her home’s two living rooms into a workspace with a TV and two folding tables. She and her wife fold laundry together, sometimes involving their older children in the process.
“She says it’s was really therapeutic,” said FOX5 reporter, Victoria Saha. “She puts on a podcast or favorite show while folding.”
The machines run all day long from when the family wakes up until they go to sleep. The family is able to sustain the business because they have solar panels, keeping their monthly electricity bill under $200.
She charges about $60 for two large trash bags filled with laundry. According to the Poplin website, the service costs about a dollar per pound in most cities.
Aufill said she shops at Costco for supplies, using Kirkland brand softener and detergent. Customers can request add-ons through the app, including softener, vinegar and starch.
She returns folded laundry in packages.
“The way she folded her sheets, it was like a little cute little package that you just unwrap,” Saha said.
Who uses the service
The woman said her clients include everyday people, such as families of six who need help managing large amounts of laundry.
Poplin is a laundry-only app that connects customers with people who do laundry from their homes. The app is available in the Las Vegas area.
