MATCHUP

The Broncos are preparing for their lone home preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, and the team will look to build off of last week’s performance against the 49ers.

Denver will look to start stronger in this week’s matchup, but the team will do so without the starters, who are expected to sit out this week. Head Coach Sean Payton said his main focus will be on improving from last week’s showing.

“Number 1, [it’s about] cleaning up and progress from mistakes that we’ve seen already,” Payton said Thursday. “Are those getting cleaned up or is it Groundhog Day for some players? If that’s the case, then we have a problem. … Those are invaluable snaps, but to your question most importantly, is more information, more data that can help us to the right decisions?”

Last week, the Broncos’ defense made its mark while forcing four turnovers, three of which were interceptions. The quality of Denver’s depth was on full display, as the defense didn’t allow a point after the opening drive.

After quarterback Jarrett Stidham was nearly perfect, going 14-for-15 with two touchdowns, he and Sam Ehlinger will look to carry that success to Empower Field at Mile High.
