Why are there two Monday Night Football games?

There are two Monday Night Football games because of the NFL’s 2021 broadcast agreements with ESPN and ABC (Disney-owned networks). This increased their total from 17 to 23 games per season starting in 2022. In order to fit these additional games into the schedule, Monday Night Football began airing doubleheaders rather than the traditional single game for certain weeks.

This year, there will be four Monday Night football doubleheaders during the regular season- with the first doubleheader featuring Texans vs. Buccaneers; and Raiders vs. Chargers.
