North Shore and Westlake will square-off Saturday afternoon for a chance to play for the state title.
In a UIL State semi-final match-up, 13-1 Westlake takes on undefeated 14-0 North Shore in a rematch of last year’s UIL 6A D1 semifinal. In last year’s meeting, North Shore won 23-14 which led to their fifth Texas state championship game in the last six years. This year, North Shore will look to make another appearance and have a strong chance of doing so with the year the team has had. The Mustangs have outscored opponents 623 to 180 this season with the latest game being a 49-21 win over Atascocita.
Senior quarterback Kalen Bailey leads the team with 37 total touchdowns and has averaged 171.5 passing yards per game. In the win over Atascocita, Bailey went 16 for 19 passing with 202 yards, had two touchdowns, threw one interception and was a dominant force on the ground with 261 rushing yards on ten carries. Quanell Farrahkan Jr. caught both of the touchdown passes and ended the night with 124 receiving yards.

Westlake has a similar stat line with 613 points scored and only 175 points allowed across their 14 games this season. The Chaparrals only loss came in week three to Atascocita by a score of 39-21. The latest game for Westlake was a one-score 24-17 win over Lake Travis. In the quarterfinal win, Lake Travis scored first, but Westlake scored 17 straight points to go ahead 17-7 with two minutes remaining in the second quarter. Lake Travis kicked a field goal to go into half trailing 17-10. With six minutes to go in the third quarter, Lake Travis tied the game at 17. At the end of the third quarter, West Lake scored to take the lead once and for all. Two late interceptions sealed the game for West Lake earning the team at least one more week together on the field.
