“Serving on the HACU Governing Board is an opportunity to help our colleagues broaden student resources and foster more inclusive environments and success in higher education,” Reber, who will serve a two-year term, said in a statement.

“I thank the HACU leadership and look forward to participating in our upcoming meetings, sharing ideas, learning from one another, and discussing strategies to help our students thrive.”

HCCC is a Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI) and was one of the 18 founding charter members of HACU in 1986, the year of its establishment.

During his tenure as president, Reber has advocated expansion of educational resources, improvement of student achievement outcomes, and leveling of inequities.

The HCCC five-year Golden Door/La Puerta Dorada grant-funded project at HCCC revamped the English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum through an ESL Pathway Academy and ESL Resource Center.

The college also hosted a “HACU on the Road” Summit for New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania college and community leaders regarding best practices, programs, initiatives, and alliances in 2024.

The annual HCCC Teaching and Learning Symposium on Social Justice in Higher Education features HACU leadership, and HCCC faculty and staff have participated in HACU leadership and fellowship programs for several consecutive years.

“As the CEO of an Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), your insights and leadership will be invaluable in advancing the mission of the Association,” Interim HACU CEO Dr. John Moder wrote in a letter appointing Reber to the association’s governing board.

“We greatly value your longstanding commitment to and strong support of HACU’s programs and initiatives.”
