Denver International Airport travelers could face delayed and canceled flights as winter weather returns to Colorado’s Front Range.

DENVER — Hundreds of flights at Denver International Airport are delayed Wednesday as a snowstorm impacts Colorado.

According to FlightAware, 278 flights have been delayed and 1 has been canceled, as of 7:28 a.m.

Some of the impacted airlines include Southwest Airlines, SkyWest, American Airlines and United.

Denver International Airport said it typically handles anywhere from 1,700 to 2,000 flights on any given day. Colorado’s largest airport recommended that travelers check security wait times ahead of travel at FlyDenver.com.

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team issued a Weather Impact Alert for Wednesday for the first significant snowstorms of the season to impact the Denver area.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Denver metro area and surrounding areas starting midnight Wednesday and lasting through Wednesday evening.

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team is tracking winter travel conditions Wednesday morning across Colorado’s mountains as well as across much of the eastern plains with anywhere from 3-6 inches of snow falling in and around the Denver area.

This storm could bring Denver its first shovel-able snow of the season, particularly for Wednesday morning.

Look for 2-5 inches of snow, mostly before and during the Wednesday morning commute, with higher totals in the foothills west of Denver and on the Palmer Divide south of town. That’s where a few localized 6″+ totals are possible.
