Jalen Green has some thoughts about the Houston Rockets trading him for Kevin Durant.
It’s been a few weeks since the Houston Rockets made one of the biggest moves of the NBA offseason.
Ahead of Game 7 of the NBA Finals, the Rockets traded for Kevin Durant, firmly cementing their intention to compete for an NBA championship next season.
Since then, the Rockets have made a lot of moves. The biggest one of those moves being bringing Dorian Finney-Smith to the Rockets for $53 million.
To land Kevin Durant, however, the Rockets had to give up some big pieces, namely, Jalen Green. In fact, Rockets GM thanked Jalen Green for his time in Houston, but admitted it was time for a change.
However, what are Jalen Green’s thoughts on this situation? Well, it appears the shooting guard is not surprised that this trade happened.
Jalen Green says Houston Rockets tried trading him for a year
Jalen Green spoke in an interview with the Houston Chronicle about his recent move to the Phoenix Suns as part of the Kevin Durant trade.
Green was not blindsided by the trade, as he knew the team was looking to move on from him. Furthermore, he doesn’t hold any ill will, as this is the nature of business in the NBA.
“Yeah, I had a feeling. They’ve been trying to trade me since last year. I’m not tripping. It’s for the better of the team.
“I know it’s a business at the end of the day. I really can’t handle how I feel. Whatever happens, happens. At the end of the day, I still got the opportunity to play basketball.”
Jalen Green has a chance to resurrect his career with Phoenix Suns
Jalen Green was the #2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Unlike other stars from his class like Cade Cunningham, Green hasn’t managed to make a big splash in the NBA yet.
Perhaps the final straw for the Rockets was Green’s poor performance in the playoffs this year. The young star looked completely out of his depth against the Golden State Warriors.
Outside of his 38-point performance in Game 2, Green put up poor scoring numbers on bad efficiency throughout the series.
Now on the Suns, where the expectations won’t be nearly as high for him, Green can develop his scoring ability and efficiency well.
The Suns are going to be a middling team for the years to come, so Green can take advantage of this opportunity and try and address the holes in his game.
