WASHINGTON – Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with multiple media appearances, videos, and an op-ed about his work in the Senate to make sure every Latino family in Arizona has a fair shot at the American Dream.

In his op-ed for La Opinión, “The Latino Story is the American Story,” Senator Gallego highlighted the importance of Latinos role in shaping America’s story.

“This Hispanic Heritage Month, my message is clear: Latinos are an essential part of this country. Our culture, our work, and our stories are integral to the United States. This country would not prosper without the contributions of Latinos,” Gallego wrote in Spanish. “At the end of the day, Latino workers simply want the same thing as any other American: to work hard, support our families, and prosper. We need to ensure our community has access to more opportunities in education, employment, and housing. And from the Senate, I’m working hard to make that a reality.”

Gallego joined radio host Chiquibaby to discuss Latino pride and representation, and how he’s fighting for policies that ensure every Latino family has a fair chance at achieving the American Dream.

The Chiquibaby Show (translated from Spanish)

Chiquibaby: “How does it feel to be a Latino highlighting us?”

Senator Gallego: “For me, it’s an honor because I have the opportunity to do a good job for many Latinos and Latinas, their children, and the kids of this country.”

Chiquibaby: “What is the most important challenge you are currently facing as a senator from a border state, knowing the challenges we are experiencing right now?”

Senator Gallego: “What I am trying to do is ensure that our community, the Latino community, can protect the workers of this country. Of course, there are immigrants in this country who arrived illegally, but they are good people, they are working, they have families, they have businesses, they want to be part of this country, and we must find a way for them to stay here too. At the same time, can we have security. […] It’s very important that we don’t let the other side say that Latinos aren’t part of this country, that we’re not part of the country’s culture. For example, the discourse that took place with Bad Bunny. They’re already trying to remove Bad Bunny from the Super Bowl.”

Senator Gallego also spoke to social media creator El Gussi about issues important to the Latino community, including the cost of living, the government shutdown, and immigration.

Senator Gallego also released a Hispanic Heritage Month playlist with his favorite songs by Latino artists. Watch him guess songs from the playlist here.

Last month, Senator Gallego celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with multiple events in Phoenix, including stops at local public schools, a Hispanic-owned small business, and a manufacturing plant in Tolleson. He also spoke with numerous local Hispanic outlets, like Radio Campesina, La Onda radio, Univision Arizona, and Conecta Arizona.
