Walk into a modern martial arts academy in 2026, and you’ll find something far removed from the gritty gyms of decades past.

Today’s facilities are professional, welcoming, and designed to serve everyone — from total beginners to seasoned competitors.

Nowhere is this more evident than in Bangkok at Evolve MMA‘s newest location at EmSphere and the highly regarded Sor Dechapan gym in the city’s northern district.

Where Every Level Belongs

Modern martial arts academies are built around one core promise: anyone can walk in and belong from day one.

Classes are organized and purposeful, structured to meet students wherever they are in their journey — guiding beginners step-by-step while pushing more experienced practitioners toward their next level, all within the same session.

Alfin Leo, Director of Operations at Evolve MMA, said:

“When students walk into Evolve in Bangkok, they’ll find classes that are structured to be safe, welcoming, and accessible for everyone — whether it’s your first day of training or you’ve been doing martial arts for years. Our goal is to make every session both educational and fun, while giving people an incredible workout and the confidence that they’re learning authentic martial arts.

And a great academy doesn’t just build fighters. It builds a community. Students don’t only come back for the training. They come back for the people around them.

A supportive, friendly atmosphere turns first-timers into regulars and regulars into a tight-knit community that pushes each other forward.

Leo added:

“Beyond the training itself, what really makes the experience special is the community. People come in for fitness or to try something new, but they stay because the environment is friendly, supportive, and genuinely fun.”

Two Paths, One Gym

Not every student walks through the door with the same goal, and the best academies are built to reflect that.

At Sor Dechapan Muay Thai in Bangkok, owner Surachet Dechapant has structured his gym around a clear distinction between professional fighters and those training for fitness, allowing each group to thrive entirely on their own terms.

Surachet explained:

“At my gym, we split people into two clear groups. First, the Muay Thai Pros. These are the professional fighters. They have to train seriously — no slacking, no shortcuts. They have to follow the gym’s strict discipline to become superstars.

“The other group is Muay Thai for Fitness. We don’t push them like the pros. We’re just happy they’re using Muay Thai to stay healthy. If they’re tired, they rest. If they’re not feeling well, they take a break. We keep these two worlds separate to suit everyone’s needs.”

Legends On The Mats

The quality of instruction is what separates a great martial arts academy from an ordinary gym.

At Evolve MMA, students train under a roster of World Champions, including Muay Thai icon Sam-A Gaiyanghadao — a former two-division, two-sport ONE World Champion who brings decades of elite competitive experience and a genuine passion for teaching to every class.

Leo said:

“Our instructors are not only World Champions, they are passionate teachers who genuinely care about helping students improve. They bring decades of experience at the highest levels of competition, but they also create a welcoming environment where anyone can learn.”

“It’s an incredible space where students can train with authentic equipment in a professional environment that prioritizes safety. Being located at EmSphere makes training incredibly convenient. Students can easily reach the academy by train, train before or after work, and step into a facility that feels like a true home for martial arts in Bangkok.”
