Local and state officials recently joined community leaders and LGBTQIA2S+ organizations in showing a unified front of support for Denver’s bid for the 2030 Gay Games, welcoming Federation of Gay Games (FGG) official site inspectors to the metro area.

Site Inspectors visited the various venues that would host 36 proposed sporting events, as well as a full slate of cultural events, over the course of last week. The Gay Games Denver 2030 Bid Committee (GGDEN2030) worked closely with Visit Denver, as well as Denver’s and Arvada’s Mayors’ Offices, to highlight not only the quality of the proposed venues, but also local attractions ranging from Red Rocks to Casa Bonita, giving inspectors a taste of what visitors to a Denver Gay Games could experience during their time in Colorado.

In the strongest show of community support to date, nearly 700 supporters joined GGDEN2030 for a Community Night, showing the world the strong support for Denver’s bid. Governor Jared Polis, Mayor Mike Johnston, Representative Brianna Titone and Attorney General Phil Weiser headlined the event, expressing both their own strong support for the bid as well as the many reasons Denver is so well suited to host the 2030 Games. Supporters enjoyed performances from local cultural favorites and some of Denver’s finest drag queens as they rallied together to support Denver’s bid.

“We were honored to welcome the 2030 Gay Games site inspectors to Denver and share what makes our city so special—from our world-class sports and cultural venues to the strength and vibrancy of our LGBTQIA2S+ community,” said Denver Mayor Mike Johnston. “Denver is a place where inclusion isn’t just an idea, it’s a value we live every day. We’re proud to be a city that leads with love, equity, and opportunity for all. As our bid team heads to Valencia this October, we’re excited to show the world why Denver is not only ready, but the right choice for the 2030 Gay Games.”

Over the past year, Denver has gone from one of over 25 cities vying to host The Games to one of two finalists competing to win the 2030 Games. Up next, GGDEN2030 will travel to Valencia, Spain—the site of the 2026 Gay Games—in October to show the committee one final time why they should select Denver as host city and bring the world “Together Out West” in 2030.

There is still time to support and help win the bid. GGDEN2030 is actively seeking volunteers, letters of support, and short videos of support from community members. Learn how to get involved by visiting GGDEN2030’s “Support” page.
