A New Front Door to Downtown Houston Interior Renovations Positioning Houston for Major Events

The Toyota Center, home of the Houston Rockets, is set to undergo an $180 million transformation designed to enhance the visitor experience and position Houston as a leading sports and entertainment destination.

The project, Toyota Center Reimagined, will break ground following the current Rockets season and is expected to be completed by fall 2027.

A New Front Door to Downtown Houston

A new 20,000-square-foot atrium will anchor the arena’s exterior at the corner of Polk and La Branch streets. The glass-enclosed structure will create more than 3,000 square feet of covered outdoor gathering space, complete with state-of-the-art digital displays for events and activations.

Additional upgrades will enhance the arrival experience, including a direct view into the arena bowl through the south entry along Bell Street, while the Skybridge entrance connecting to the Toyota Tundra Garage will be fully redesigned and provide climate-controlled access.

Interior Renovations

Inside the arena, all existing suites will be fully renovated with refreshed interiors, improved sightlines and upgraded furnishings to support corporate entertainment and networking.

New hospitality spaces include a Season Ticket Members Lounge, with nearly 5,000 square feet of meeting space, the Summit Club, a 6,000-square-foot dining and lounge area, and the Sky Bar and HOU Market on the upper concourse with views of downtown. The team store will also expand, more than doubling its footprint.

The project also includes key infrastructure upgrades, including new vertical transportation systems, expanded Wi-Fi and broadcast capabilities and a modernized command center.

Positioning Houston for Major Events

This investment comes as the Women’s National Basketball Association is set to return to Houston next year, bringing back the Comets, the region’s original WNBA team. At the same time, Houston is making strategic investments to position itself as a destination for major events, including the expansion of the George R. Brown Convention Center and the Texans’ Toro District™, as it prepares to host the FIFA World Cup 2026 ™ this summer.

“The modernization of the arena is a critical step in maintaining Houston’s competitive edge as the premier destination for major events,” said Ryan Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of the Harris County–Houston Sports Authority. “These upgrades will not only elevate the fan experience, but also strengthen our ability to attract high-profile events, drive tourism, and generate economic impact across the region.”
