WEST JORDAN — Popular grocery chain Trader Joe’s has selected a couple of areas for new store locations in the southwest pocket of Salt Lake County — Herriman and now West Jordan.

The retailer’s website doesn’t indicate an opening date for the new store, but city leaders say it’s expected to open this year at 5561 W. 7800 South.

The project has drawn “substantial community interest” within the past several months as construction has been underway at the previously undeveloped site, West Jordan leaders said in a press release Tuesday.

The announcement of a Trader Joe’s opening in West Jordan marks a big win for residents and a sign of investment in the city, said West Jordan Mayor Dirk Burton.

“For years, our community has asked for this business, and we’re thrilled to finally share that it’s happening.”

West Jordan officials added that the business will fulfill a frequently expressed resident request and further strengthen the city’s growing commercial landscape.

“The arrival of Trader Joe’s is expected to bring a range of economic and community benefits, including new job opportunities and increased convenience for families,” a statement from the city reads. “The development also contributes to the city’s strategic efforts to attract high‑quality businesses that enhance the quality of life while expanding West Jordan’s long‑term economic base.”

In October, the national retailer opened a new store in Riverdale and announced Herriman as one of the Utah cities to get a new Trader Joe’s. That location is under construction at 4850 W. 13400 South.

West Jordan officials say they look forward to celebrating the grand opening of the new Trader Joe’s in the coming weeks as the final phases of development are completed.
