JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With Election Day approaching, some Jacksonville voters are casting their ballots early.
State Rep. Angie Nixon, U.S. Senate candidate, brought voters, volunteers and supporters together for a march to the polls, combining early voting with music, food trucks and community outreach.
“Right in this moment, our communities are being attacked, and we need to come together to push back against those attacks,” Nixon said.
For voter Amy Hogan, showing up was about more than casting a ballot.
“I think I want the polls to show moving numbers, and I want to show unity, and showing up is important,” Hogan said.
Organizers also made phone calls to voters across Florida, encouraging them to go to the polls.
“Right now, we’re seeing a lot of people struggling to make ends meet, and I think if they’re stressed and they’re scared, there is a way to combat that: go vote and make your voice heard and share what your needs are,” volunteer Jessica Machin said.
News4JAX reached out to U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody’s office for information about her voting plans. Her office said it would share that information when it is available.
