LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – KU football’s Big 12 opener on the road at West Virginia may not have gone how the Jayhawks had hoped, but they’re now focused on ending their Big 12 home opener a bit differently.
Saturday’s matchup with TCU will be the first game of the 2024 season they’ll play at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Horned Frogs are entering the game 2-2 on the year, and will be looking for their first conference win of the season as well.
As the Jayhawks look to flip the script from their close losses, they’re hoping the fans will be by their side in Kansas City on Saturday.
Before the season, Athletic Director Travis Goff said if 76,000 is the capacity at Arrowhead Stadium, that’s what they want to fill for every conference home game.
Given the high hopes for the preseason ranked Jayhawks and impressive week one performance, fans have certainly been voicing their disappointment in the teams’ 1-3 start to the year.
But Head Coach Lance Leipold pointed out on Monday that crowds have the power to change game outcomes, and he’s hoping they’ll show up for the first page of a new chapter in this season.
“I told them [the team] it’s kind of like reading books or watching movies or something. There’s some books and movies that start off really slow, but they end up being quite a story at the end. I plan on this team being one,” Coach Leipold said.
He also added that he understands the fanbase is frustrated. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be real fans.
Kickoff at Arrowhead Stadium is at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. You can watch the game only on ESPN+.
