From actors to producers, directors, and cinematographers, The Academy’s push for diversity and inclusion continues as it extends its 2024 invitations to 487 industry professionals to join the organization.
This year’s list reflects a vibrant array of talent, particularly highlighting contributions from Hispanic artists, who have demonstrated talent and have also worked tirelessly to bring diverse stories and perspectives to the screen.
Among the actors invited this year are Jessica Alba, known for her roles in Machete and Sin City, and Kate Del Castillo, star of Under the Same Moon and La Reina del Sur. Stephanie Beatriz, who captured audiences with her voice in Encanto and her performance in In the Heights, and Alfredo Castro, a powerful presence in Latin American cinema with roles in El Conde and Tony Manero.
From the directors branch, Fede Álvarez (The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Don’t Breathe) Lila Avilés (Tótem, The Chambermaid) and Angel Manuel Soto (Blue Beetle) also got invites.
While the inclusion of this year’s selection, added to other recent classes of talented individuals showcases the Academy’s ongoing efforts to enhance diversity within its membership, there is a continued need to broaden access and representation within the organization that ultimately determines Oscar winners.
