John Camden scored a season-high 26 points as Cal defeated host Miami 86-85 in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The winning bucket was a putback by reserve Dhiaukuei Manyiel with 56 seconds left. It was his only shot and only points in the game.

Miami’s Tre Donaldson had a layup spin out with 46 seconds left. Miami had another shot at a potential game-winner, but Shelton Henderson’s short bank shot missed on the game’s final attempt.

Cal (16-6, 4-5), which has won three of its last four, was also powered by Justin Pippen (17 points, game-high eight assists) and Chris Bell (16 points). The former is the son of Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen.

Malik Reneau scored 20 of his team-high 24 points in the second half to lead Miami. The Hurricanes (17-5, 6-3) got major contributions from Henderson (16 points) and Dante Allen (12 points).

Miami also got 14 points and a team-high five assists from Donaldson, and 12 points and seven rebounds from Ernest Udeh Jr.

The Hurricanes played without starting shooting guard Tru Washington, who missed the game due to personal reasons. He averages 11.9 points and a team-high 1.9 steals.

Cal played its second straight game without starting forward Lee Dort (knee). He averages 8.3 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds.

The first half featured a 9-0 Miami run followed by a string of 10 straight Cal points.

By the end of the half, Cal led 45-44, but only after Donaldson missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with three seconds left.

Both teams shot the ball well in the first half. Miami made 60.7% overall, while Cal shot 53%.

Camden led all first-half scorers with 19 points on 5-of-6 shooting overall, 2-of-2 on 3-pointers and 7-of-7 on free throws.

The second half was close throughout, but Cal had two frontcourt players foul out on successive possessions: Milos Ilic with 4:35 left and Mantas Kocanas with 4:06 remaining.

Those foulouts opened the door for Manyiel to hit his game-winner.

Miami had a 48-26 edge in paint points. Cal went 10-for-23 on 3-point attempts and Miami shot 4-of-12 from deep.
