DENVER – The University of Denver women’s basketball program has named former IMG Academy head girls basketball coach Jasmine Gill an assistant coach, DU head coach Erik Johnson announced on Wednesday.

Gill led the IMG Academy Girls Regional program to a 22-4 mark in the 2025 season. The Greensboro, North Carolina, native focused on a disciplined and high-accountability team culture to prepare her student-athletes for collegiate-level competition, which in turn has prepared her for this position, her first collegiate assistant coaching job.

“I have known Jasmine since she was in high school, and I am so excited to have her joining our staff,” Johnson said. “Jas had an amazing pro career and has dedicated herself to bringing her knowledge and passion for the game to the young women that she coaches. Her player development abilities are among the best in our game, and her character has had a huge impact on the lives of the young women she has been coaching at IMG. Jas will make a lasting impact on every DU player for years to come, both on and off the court. We are so glad to have her in Denver!”

Gill played her college basketball for Boston College (2008-10) and James Madison (2010-13). Following her collegiate career, Gill played 13 seasons professionally across several different countries, including France, Germany, Greece, Italy and Australia. During her professional career, Gill also worked as a fitness trainer for Jus Global Athletics.

“I’m extremely grateful and thankful for this opportunity, it means a lot to me,” Gill said. “This is more than a job for me, it’s my purpose. Basketball is who I am, and I’m excited to pour into our student-athletes on and off the court while helping Erik continue building a winning culture for women’s basketball here at DU.”

In-between her professional career and her most recent job at the IMG Academy, Gill coached at the high school level in Greensboro at Grimsley High School and Southeast Guilford High School.

Gill received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from James Madison in 2012 and became a certified fitness trainer in 2018 from the International Sports Science Association.

Johnson was hired on Monday, April 20, to begin his second stint as the head coach at the University of Denver. In his first go around, the Pioneers went 72-52 in four seasons, including 44-24 in Sun Belt Conference play and a 44-13 mark at home. Johnson and the Pioneers finished above .500 in all four seasons, the longest streak for the program in the Division I era. In his last job at Fairfield, Johnson was an assistant coach for a Fairfield team that went 102-27 in the last four seasons, won three MAAC Championships and made three NCAA Tournament appearances.
