SAN ANTONIO (May 20, 2024) – San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) begins a scheduled maintenance project today to completely replace the heating and cooling systems at the Johnston Branch Library (6307 Sun Valley, 78227). The work will also include interior facility improvements. While the project requires a temporary closure of the Johnston Branch, the new HVAC and interior updates are expected to be complete in late summer 2024.

These updates are being completed as part of a regular schedule of maintenance for SAPL’s 29 facilities. During the repairs, library services, parking lot Wi-Fi and the book drop will be unavailable at the Johnston Branch.

During the improvements, staff from the Johnston Branch will offer interim service at the nearby Miller’s Pond Community Center (6175 Old Pearsall Rd., 78242). Anyone with library materials ready to pick up at the Johnston Branch can retrieve them at the interim location. Throughout the duration of the project, Johnston Branch patrons can conveniently pick up and return materials at Miller’s Pond during the following service hours:

Miller’s Pond Community Center – Library Interim Service Hours

  • Monday and Tuesday: 2 – 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday – Friday: 2 – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

SAPL also invites Johnston Branch patrons to get to know a new library. With locations across the city, complete library services are never far away. In addition to the interim library services offered at Miller’s Pond, full library services are also available at these nearby locations:

  • Guerra Branch Library (7978 Military Dr. W., 78227)
  • Cortez Branch Library (2803 Hunter Blvd., 78224)

For a full list of SAPL locations, visit the library website.

These updates to the Johnston Branch align with SAPL’s commitment to the community to offer the highest quality of library service.
