Jon Jones believes Gable Steveson will join him in the history books as a UFC heavyweight champion.
After picking up a quick stoppage win in his MMA debut at LFA 217 earlier this month, Steveson booked the headliner for Dirty Boxing’s next event on Oct. 30 in Nashville against Billy Swanson. Jones, who is a coach and mentor of Steveson, while also a co-owner of Dirty Boxing, reacted to the news of Steveson competing at the event.
Answering some fan questions, Jones says Steveson is on the road to becoming the UFC heavyweight champion.
“It’s not a matter of if he can, it’s a matter of when,” Jones said when asked if Steveson can win the title in the future. “I’ve had many great teammates over the years, but I’ve always said if I would ever be a coach it would have to be a Wrestler who was completely committed to success. I found my guy and I’m excited to add world championship coach to my resume.”
Jones retired from the sport and vacated the heavyweight title earlier this year, but then quickly changed his mind following the announcement of the UFC White House card coming up in June 2026. Despite Dana White saying Jones is “a billion to one” to compete on the card, Jones is hopeful the UFC CEO will reconsider.
