Kamehameha boys water polo standout Konnor Chang has been invited to train with the USA Olympic Development Team.

Later this summer, he will also train with the national team to Serbia to take in the team’s competition.

Boys water polo is not a sanctioned sport by the HHSAA, but that hasn’t stopped Chang from becoming one of the country’s best.

“It’s super special. Not a lot of people make the team, and I feel like it’s a great opportunity for everyone because we get to play against better opponents that we don’t have here in Hawaii,” said Chang, who is about to enter his senior year with Kamehameha. “I think what I’m about to learn is a lot about water polo, about playing with a higher level of people, as well as traveling and representing our country, as well as Hawaii and my school. So it’s a lot to take in, but it means a lot because I can bring home what I learn from that experience and teach it to the younger kids as well as my school team. And, I can really show what Hawaii has to offer because water polo is not big here.”
