Kawhi Leonard is on track to join an exclusive club of players making half a billion in NBA salary after agreeing to an extension with the Toronto Raptors.
Leonard has agreed to a two-year, $115 million extension with the Raptors after his trade from the Los Angeles Clippers was finalized last week, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The new deal is set to bring Leonard’s total career earnings to $543 million, per ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry are the only players who will have received more than $500 million in NBA career earnings by the end of the 2026-27 season, per Spotrac.
Leonard and James Harden are on track to join that club in the future after signing their extensions with the Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers, respectively.
James leads all players with $585 million in career earnings through the end of the 2026-27 season, per Spotrac. He is followed on the list by Durant ($545 million) and Curry ($532 million).
The three-year, $97 million extension Harden agreed to last month with the Cavaliers is set to bring his career earnings to a total of $511 million, per Charania.
By the time Leonard’s extension wraps up at the end of the 2029-30 season, Spotrac projects three more players will have eclipsed the $500 million mark in the Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker, Boston Celtics’ Paul George and Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid.
On track to join the club by the end of the 2030-31 campaign is the Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell, per Spotrac.
Leonard has received the bulk of his career earnings from the Clippers ($291.8 million) to go along with $185.4 million from the Raptors and $63.4 million from the San Antonio Spurs, per Spotrac. He was ranked by Forbes as the world’s 37th highest-paid athlete of 2026.
His extension with the Raptors comes shortly after the NBA issued him a $700,000 fine as part of its investigation into alleged salary cap circumvention by the Clippers.
Leonard, who averaged 27.9 points in 65 games during a resurgent final season with the Clippers, will now head back to Toronto for the first time since leading his former team to a title in 2019.
