KUWAIT: Kuwait’s national mixed martial arts team secured one gold medal and two bronze medals on Friday at the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Championship, taking place at the Fouad Chehab Sports Complex in Jounieh, north of Beirut. The national delegation competed with four athletes in the 10–11 age category. Abdulrahman Al-Tamimi claimed Kuwait’s gold medal, while Dawood Dashti and Fahad Awadh added two bronze medals.

Team member Meshal Abdulrahman delivered a strong performance but narrowly missed out on a podium finish, the team’s coach Osama Al-Saeedi said in remarks to KUNA. Al-Saeedi praised the young fighters for their determination and discipline, noting that the results were achieved in a high-level competition featuring a strong field of participants. He described the outcome as a valuable achievement, particularly given the scale and competitiveness of the event.

Vice President of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation, Wissam Abi Nader, highlighted the significance of hosting the championship in Lebanon for the first time. He noted that the large international turnout reflects growing interest in the sport across Asia. More than 400 athletes from 20 countries are competing, benefiting from the opportunity to gain experience, develop their skills, and earn ranking points that will support their international careers, he said.

The championship, organized by the Lebanese Federation under the supervision of the International and Asian bodies, runs through December 10. Alongside Kuwait, participating nations include Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Palestine, Bahrain, Yemen, the UAE, Mongolia, the Philippines, Jordan, Japan, and host nation Lebanon. – KUNA
