The city of Phoenix’s Parks and Recreation Department recently reopened the La Pradera Park with new renovations. Many community members attended the reopening featuring performances and activities.
Many residents cheered during the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the latest upgrades in La Pradera Park. These include new pickleball courts, shade trees and a refurbished basketball court.
The improvements come as part of the city’s capital improvement project.
Marty Whitfield is the assistant director at the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
“This is one of our older parks in our system, and over the years, some of our amenities have been deteriorating a little bit. So it was part of our five-year capital improvement program to renovate the park,” he said.
When it comes to the criteria for renovating parks, Whitfield says the city looks at the age of amenities and considers safety issues.
