Shelter-in-place order lifted for nearby residents, suspect believed to have fled area, officials say
LANSING, Ill. (WLS) — A suspect is at large after a deadly shooting Thursday afternoon at a business in the south suburbs, police said.
A large police response was seen beginning around 1 p.m. at Nippon Paint Automotive Americas on East 170th Street in Lansing, Illinois, which is a car coating manufacturer.
The manhunt had already past its third hour as of 4 p.m., as people who live near the scene were being urged to shelter in place. The shelter-in-place order in Lansing has since been lifted as police said the suspect was believed to have fled the area.

The scene was across the street from the Lansing village hall and police department buildings. Officers armed with long guns could be seen going in and out of several nearby buildings while investigating.
Workers could be seen across the street from the business after being evacuated.
Investigators say when they got to the scene, they found one person dead.
Lansing police said they are searching for a suspect who is “5’8″ 160 pounds,” and is wearing a “black hoodie, and a white surgical mask.” The suspect got away on foot, going southbound on 170th Street.
“Last seen southbound from the scene running on foot,” Lansing Police Chief Alfred Phillips said. “We have police agencies from our surrounding communities helping us out. we have south suburban emergency response team on their way to help search the buildings. we have very large building to search, we have four buildings in fact to search. 145502 and at this time major crimes task force is also out interviewing possible witnesses.”
What led up to the shooting and if this was a workplace dispute that turned deadly were not yet known.
