PHOTOS: Fire crews responded to the scene of a large field fire burning on the property of a landscaping business in Woods Cross. The fire reportedly started around 10 p.m. on Monday night and continued to burn through 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

Officials said the fire burned through a mulch pile, which helped fuel the flames throughout the night. Wind has also been a factor, according to fire crews on scene, helping to fan the flames. South Davis Fire Deputy Chief Jeff Larsen said the fire was “deep embedded” into the mulch pile and anticipated the fire to burn for a significant amount of time.

“It’s brutal for these guys,” said Deputy Chief Larsen, referring to the roughly 30 firefighters who responded from South Davis Metro, Farmington and Layton. “They’ve been out since about 10 o’clock at night and we’ll keep working through it until we get the fire extinguished or at least suppressed to the point we feel comfortable turning it back over to the property owner.”

Larsen said there have been no injuries from the fire and no structures were threatened. He did anticipate that nearby residents in the area may see and smell smoke throughout the morning.
