The Celtics tried to make it interesting, but ultimately a second-quarter surge from the Knicks was too much to overcome in a 105-95 loss at Madison Square Garden.
Boston was hindered by its inability to rebound on the defensive end and New York exploited the weakness. With Karl-Anthony Towns (six offensive rebounds) leading the way, the Knicks took advantage of their size inside and finished with 21 second-chance points on 21 offensive rebounds.
The C’s also allowed 23 points off 16 turnovers, the vast majority of which occurred in the second quarter when the hosts outscored the visitors 42-14 in the 12-minute period. Boston’s minus-28 point differential represents the fourth worst in franchise history.
