NFL mock draft has Bills repeating consistent history under Brandon Beane (and it's the wrong move)NFL mock draft has Bills repeating consistent history under Brandon Beane (and it’s the wrong move)

Right now, the Buffalo Bills currently hold the No. 26 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, and fans are wondering what exactly Brandon Beane will do. Whether they go with a wide receiver, edge rusher, maybe bring in some more secondary help. Heck, who knows if the Bills will package that selection in order to require a veteran player via trade.

For quite some time now, the Bills have typically drafted for need rather than best player available. They are a team that is drafting late in the first round because they get so close to the Super Bowl, but have come up short every single year.

Buffalo has 7 picks to use (for right now) and last year, the Bills went heavy on defense, drafting six players on that side of the ball and not selecting an offensive player until the 5th round (TE Jackson Hawes).

Even though the defense has had the main issues in recent memory, you would think that Beane would focus on getting the offense some help, especially at wide receiver. However, Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone has the Bills taking the same route that they have been taking for many years in the first round, and fans would be extremely mad at it.

In Scataglia’s mock draft, the Bills selected South Carolina cornerback, Brandon Cisse despite Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion still being on the board (eventually landing with the Denver Broncos at No. 30).

It doesn’t make sense for the Bills to go with a corner for two simple reasons; they already have Christian Benford as their CB1, and they just spent a first round pick last year on Maxwell Hairston. Will the Bills need depth? Absolutely, but not until the later rounds of the draft.

Buffalo doesn’t have a huge need for cornerback help, just depth. That’s the difference. The Bills are better off going with wide receiver (if they don’t acquire help in free agency) or potentially going with linebacker to replace Matt Milano, if the Bills ultimately let him go in free agency.

There are going to be countless mock drafts from here on out and fans will see the Bills making their selection, and also trading their first pick in all kinds of mocks. The thing is, what happens in free agency will ultimately determine what direction the Bills take in the first round in April.
