TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – For more than a decade Nancy Rangel has been a leader in the community and credits her family for her success helping Hispanic communities in Tyler.

Rangel is the president and CEO of the Tyler Hispanic Business Alliance, an organization with a mission to help small business owners of Hispanic origin grow.

“They’re our pioneers,” said Nancy Rangel president, and CEO of Tyler Hispanic Business Alliance. “They were the very first to advocate for the Latino community.”

Her mother was a nurse in Mexico and her father was in seminary school when he was presented with the opportunity to study in Lubbock to become a preacher.

“It’s a beautiful thing to see both of them to be able to really come here. Not knowing the culture, not knowing the language knowing it was going to take a lot of work to be able to survive and be able to provide for the family,” said Rangel.

Their passion to serve others was passed down to her at a young age.

“To continue not only their legacy but all others who stood up were able to voice and were heard,” said Rangel.

Under the Tyler Hispanic Business Alliance, she has brought many opportunities not seen before in East Texas.

“The Latina woman outpaced any demographic group when it came to entrepreneurship. It was just amazing to see the group of Latina women that are just so excited to come together to learn how they can contribute even more to our community,” said Rangel.

She was also part of the creation of Rose City Fiesta, a celebration of Hispanic culture in Tyler, and a business workshop for Latinos in the community.

“Those kinds of things don’t happen if you don’t have the right leader in that role,” said Shannon Dacus the chair of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce.

She’s seen the important role Rangel plays in their chamber of commerce meetings.

“She is out there… talking about the value of Hispanic businesses in this community.”

As a Mexican American, Rangel knows her success came from her parents’ choice to come to the U.S.

“Had they not laid that foundation for me, it would not have created the person I am today,” said Rangel.
